Prunes are one of the best natural sources of sorbitol, a sugar alcohol which pulls water into the gut. The additional water helps loosen hard stools, so they are able to pass through the digest tract more easily. Due to prunes high sorbitol content, they are also considered one of the best natural laxatives around. Pears also contain sorbitol as well as fibre, making this puree a great one for getting things moving.
